The University of Oklahoma College of Law is an ABA-certified law school located on the University of Oklahoma campus in Norman, Oklahoma. Currently,... the College of Law has an enrollment of 527 law students. The College of Law was founded in 1909 by a resolution of the OU Board of Regents. It opened at the beginning of the next school year in September 1909. The first dean was Professor Julien C. Monnet of The George Washington University Law School. The College of Law initially shared space in the Science Building before moving to the basement of the Carnegie Building. The early law professors made OU Law the premier law school in Oklahoma and perhaps in the Southwest. In its 2009 publication, U.S. News & World Report ranks the College of Law 71st among the nation's law schools. In 1948, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in Sipuel v. Board of Regents of Univ. of Okla. that Oklahoma could not bar African American students from its, at the time, all white law school. This was a landmark case in the early civil rights movement. Francis Anthony "Frank" Keating is an American politician from Oklahoma. Keating served as the 25th Governor of Oklahoma. His first term began in... 1995 and ended in 1999. Keating won reelection to a second term, which ended in 2003. As of 2009, Keating is the second Governor in Oklahoma history to hold consecutive terms and the only Republican to accomplish that feat. Francis Anthony Keating was born on February 10, 1944 in St. Louis, Missouri but before Keating was six months old his family moved to Oklahoma and settled in Tulsa. A devout Roman Catholic, Keating attended Cascia Hall Preparatory School in Tulsa, graduating in 1962. Keating was accepted to Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. where he became a member of the Philodemic Society. He would go on to receive his Bachelor of Arts degree in History in 1966. After receiving his degree, Keating returned to Oklahoma to further his education. He received a Juris Doctorate from the University of Oklahoma College of Law in 1969. Upon receiving his law degree, Keating began his career in law enforcement.

Carolyn Gimpel Hart is an award-winning American mystery writer who specializes in traditional mysteries, also known as cozy mysteries. Hart was born... Carolyn Gimpel and was raised in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, where she still lives. She attended Cleveland Elementary School, Taft Junior High School, and Classen High School. At the age of 11, Hart decided that she wanted to be a newspaper reporter. She worked on school papers beginning in grade school, continuing all the way through her college years. Hart is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Oklahoma , where she majored in journalism. Hart met her husband, Philip, while traveling in Europe in her junior year in college. After graduation, while her husband attended law school, Hart worked as a reporter for The Norman Transcript. She gave up journalism after the birth of her son, Philip Jr. In 1964, the year her daughter, Sarah, was born, Hart won a writing contest calling for a mystery novel that would appeal to adolescent girls, sponsored by Dodd, Mead and Calling All Girls. She went on to write several more teenage and young adult mysteries between 1965 and 1972.

Larry Drake is an American actor. Drake was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the son of Lorraine, a homemaker, and Raymond Drake, a drafting engineer for an... oil company. Drake is renowned for his portrayal of developmentally disabled Benny Stulwicz on the television show L.A. Law from 1987 until the show's end in 1994, for which he won two consecutive Emmy Awards . He returned to the part of Benny in L.A. Law: The Movie, a "reunion" movie aired on NBC in 2002. Drake has appeared in numerous television and film roles, including: Time Quest, Dark Asylum, Paranoid, Bean, Overnight Delivery, The Beast, The Journey of August King, Murder in New Hampshire, Dr. Giggles, Darkman, Darkman II: The Return of Durant, The Taming of the Shrew , American Pie 2, and Dark Night of the Scarecrow. He was also a regular on the 1998 science fiction TV show Prey. Drake provided the voice acting for Pops on Johnny Bravo. In 2007 he co-starred in the made for TV movie Gryphon, a Sci-Fi Pictures original film. Drake married actress Ruth De Sosa in 1989; they divorced in 1991.

James Garner is an American film and television actor, one of the first Hollywood actors to excel in both media. His two older brothers were actor Jack Garner and Charles Bumgarner, a school administrator who died in 1984. His family was Methodist. His mother, who was said to be of part Cherokee descent, died when he was five years old.

Rilla Askew is an American novelist and short story writer who was born in the Sans Bois Mountains of southeastern Oklahoma, and grew up in the town... of Bartlesville, Oklahoma. She graduated from the University of Tulsa with a B.F.A. in Theatre Performance in 1980 and went on to study creative writing at Brooklyn College, where she received her MFA in 1989. Rilla has taught at Syracuse University, Brooklyn College, the University of Central Oklahoma, the University of Oklahoma and the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Askew was a 2004 fellow at Civiella Ranieri in Umbertide, Italy, and a featured writer at the 2008 World Literature Today and Chinese Literature Conference in Beijing. In 2009, she received an Academy Award in Literature from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. Her essays and short fiction have appeared in a variety of journals, and her story "The Killing Blanket" was selected for Prize Stories 1993: The O. Henry Awards. Askew's first novel The Mercy Seat was nominated for the PEN/Faulkner Award, the Dublin IMPAC Prize, was a Boston Globe Notable Book, and received the Oklahoma Book Award and the Western Heritage Award in 1998.
