Cromwell College, University of Queensland is a residential college of the University of Queensland in St Lucia, Queensland, Australia. Cromwell... College was founded in 1950 and initially funded by a generous gift from the Hancock family. The College is now affiliated with the Uniting Church. Cromwell was the first of the Colleges on the St Lucia campus in June 1954, and admitted men only until it became co-ed in 1973. Cromwell College was host to the Queensland Youth Aerospace Forum in 2006, 2007 and again in 2008 The emblem of Cromwell College is a Lion. The Dining Hall is central to the college which is laid out in a relaxed sprawling style with gardens integrated. The college has six "corridors" named after influential people in Cromwell's history. The corridor names are North, Lockley, Thatcher, Begbie, Dowling and Hancock. A chapel, tennis court and an entertainment/function room aptly called the "Lions Den". Cromwell College Student Association is a member of the Inter College Council of UQ and is noted for the nationwide-famous bunker party held bi-annually. Additionally, the college is renowned for the use of 'fresher names'.

St John's College is a co-educational college situated within the St Lucia Campus of the University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia. The college... is affiliated with the University of Queensland with whom the college co-sponsors The Australian Institute of Ethics and the Professions . The college was founded in 1911, the same year the University of Queensland accepted its first students. The college models itself on an adapted Oxbridge model, whereby all students are encouraged to regularly attend tutorials offered and encourage academic achievements. Students must maintain a certain Grade Point Average to be eligible for re-entry into the college. In 2005, a building was burned down in a fire apparently caused by unattended electrical devices left on by a student over the Easter break. The college provided portable buildings to house students from the affected building, and has since completed rebuilding. The Niggles is an auditioned all-male Collegiate a cappella group which focuses on stage performance. The college maintains an auditioned chamber choir consisting of approximately 12 choral scholars.

The Women's College, University of Queensland is an independent College for women students. The Women’s College within the University of... Queensland was founded in 1913 and admitted 19 women residents on March 16, 1914 under founding Principal Anna Frederica Bage MSc DPhil . The first University of Queensland college to admit women, it was another 35 years before the establishment of another such college. Of the ten colleges now on campus, three are for women only, two for men only, and the others are mixed. There are currently 189 undergraduates and postgraduate women residents within the College.

Union College is a co-ed residential college of the University of Queensland in St Lucia, Queensland, Australia. The college is named after the... University of Queensland Union which established the college, and as such the college is not affiliated with any church or denomination. The Union College building was built in five major stages between 1964 and 1972 to the design of James Birrell, Staff Architect for the University between 1961 and 1966. Union College has places for 341 students, making it the largest of the ten residential colleges at the University's main St Lucia campus. The Gatton Halls of Residence, University of Queensland at Gatton Campus is overall the University's largest with 440 rooms. The emblem of Union College is a red shield with white links crossing from top left to bottom right.

Grace College is an all-female residential college at the St Lucia Campus of the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia. Grace is the home... of more than 180 female students of the University of Queensland. It accommodates 16 students to each floor with each floor containing its own bathroom, kitchenette and common room complete with television, fridge, sink and microwave. All rooms also have internet and phone supplied and newspapers are delivered to the college daily for free student access. Fully catered meals are provided in the air-conditioned dining room and students are able to work out in the well-equipped gym facility. Grace also boasts a television room and billiard table and students are able to access washing machines, dryers and photocopiers for small fees. Students also have access to several music rooms complete with pianos and air-conditioning. The college also contains several large common rooms which are available for functions. The Junior Common Room is the largest and is used during Orientation Week for first-years .

Emmanuel College, University of Queensland is a residential college of the University of Queensland in St Lucia, Queensland, Australia. It was the... first residential college established at the University of Queensland and the ninth college nationally. Emmanuel College is the third largest of the UQ colleges with a capacity of 340 students . Students living at Emmanuel College study for a wide range of degrees and are encouraged to excel academically through the college's extensive tutorial program. As well as academia, students at Emmanuel participate in a wide range of men's and women's sports and compete against the other UQ Colleges for the annual Inter-College Cup . There is also a wide range of cultural competitions such as Bandfest and College Idol in which Emmanuel competes against the other 9 UQ Colleges for the ICC Cultural Cup. Australia's ninth, and one of the University of Queensland's first residential colleges, Emmanuel College was founded by the Presbyterian Church of Queensland in September 1911.

Judith Catherine Rodriguez AM is a contemporary Australian poet. Rodriguez was born Judith Catherine Green in Perth and grew up in Brisbane. She was... educated at Brisbane Girls Grammar School, and graduated from the University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Arts. She then travelled to England, where she received a Master of Arts from Cambridge University in 1965, where she met her first husband, Colombian Fabio Rodriguez. She has published numerous volumes of poetry, some illustrated by her own woodcuts, edited an anthology and the collected poems of Jennifer Rankin. From 1979 to 1982, she was poetry editor for the literary journal Meanjin, and from 1988 to 1997 she was a poetry editor with the publisher Penguin Australia. The play Poor Johanna, co-written with Robyn Archer, was produced in 1994 and her libretto for Moya Henderson's opera Lindy, about the Azaria Chamberlain disappearance, was performed at the Sydney Opera House in 2002. She is a recipient of the Christopher Brennan Award and taught at La Trobe University and Deakin University .

Peter Charles Doherty AC is an Australian veterinary surgeon and researcher in the field of medicine. He received the Albert Lasker Award for Basic... Medical Research in 1995, the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine jointly with Rolf M. Zinkernagel in 1996 and was named Australian of the Year in 1997. In the Australia Day Honours of 1997, he was named a Companion of the Order of Australia for his work with Zinkernagel. Zinkernagel was named an honorary Companion. He is also a National Trust Australian Living Treasure. He had a younger brother named Ian and had two parents named Linda and Eric. Doherty's research focuses on the immune system and his Nobel work described how the body's immune cells protect against viruses. He and Rolf Zinkernagel, the co-recipient of the 1996 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, discovered how T cells recognize their target antigens in combination with major histocompatibility complex proteins. Viruses infect host cells and reproduce inside them. Killer T-cells destroy those infected cells so that the viruses cannot reproduce.

David George Joseph Malouf is an acclaimed Australian writer. He was awarded the Neustadt International Prize for Literature in 2000, his 1993 novel... Remembering Babylon won the International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award in 1996, he won the inaugural Australia-Asia Literary Award in 2008, and he was shortlisted for the Booker Prize. Malouf was born in Brisbane, Australia, to a Christian Lebanese father and an English-born mother of Portuguese Sephardi Jewish descent. He was an avid reader as a child, and at 12 years old was reading such books as Wuthering Heights, Bleak House and The Hunchback of Notre Dame. These books, he says, taught him about sex: "They told you there was a life out there that was amazingly passionate". He attended Brisbane Grammar School and graduated from the University of Queensland in 1955. He lectured for a short period before moving to London, where he taught at Holland Park School before relocating to Birkenhead in 1962. He returned to Australia in 1968 and lectured at the University of Sydney, taught at his old school, and lectured in English at the Universities of Queensland and Sydney.

Geoffrey Roy Rush is an Australian actor and film producer. He is one of the few people who has won the "Triple Crown of Acting": an Academy Award,... a Tony Award and an Emmy Award. He has won one Academy Award for acting , three British Academy Film Awards , two Golden Globe Awards and four Screen Actors Guild Awards. He is the foundation President of the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts. He is the 2012 Australian of the Year. Rush was born in Toowoomba, Queensland, to Merle , a department store sales assistant, and Roy Baden Rush, an accountant for the Royal Australian Air Force. His parents divorced when he was five and his mother subsequently took him to live with her parents in suburban Brisbane. Before he began his acting career, Rush attended Everton Park State High School. He also has an arts degree from the University of Queensland. While at university, he was talent-spotted by Queensland Theatre Company in Brisbane. Rush began his career with QTC in 1971, appearing in 17 productions.
