Bangor University is a university based in the city of Bangor in the county of Gwynedd in North Wales. It was officially known for most of its history as the University College of North Wales . From 1995 until 31 August 2007 the University was known as University of Wales, Bangor and Prifysgol Cymru, Bangor . The University was founded as the "University College of North Wales" on 18 October 1884 with an inaugural address by the Earl of Powis, the College's first President, in Penrhyn Hall.
