U.S. States Ranked by Median Household Income

The latest information from the Census Bureau puts Maryland as the richest state in the US with a median income of $65,144. Maryland’s median income was double that of the poorest state, Mississippi. States with the highest concentration of financial and technological companies boasted the highest incomes, whereas the states with the lowest were primarily those with failing or obsolete industrial districts. The median income for the US was $48,451 with income increases in Nevada and New Mexico and income decreases in Delaware and Maine.
