Morris Almond is an American professional basketball player. Almond attended McEachern High School in Powder Springs, Georgia, and was a teammate of current Atlanta Hawks forward Josh Smith. Almond played college basketball at Rice University. He was relatively unknown in his first two seasons... with the Owls, but he broke out of anonymity in his junior season. His scoring average jumped to 21.9 points per game . His scoring average led all players in Conference USA that season. With his increased fame, Almond considered skipping his final college season to play professional basketball. Ultimately, he decided to stay at Rice for his senior year; it turned out to be a great decision. He improved his scoring average further to 26.4 points per game, ranking third in the nation. He was named Conference USA Player of the Year and was named AP All-America Honorable Mention. Almond finished his career at Rice with 121 games played and a scoring average of 15.1 points per game. After graduation, he was selected by the Utah Jazz in the first round in the 2007 NBA Draft.

Herbert Hill is an American basketball player currently playing for the Incheon Elephants in the Korean Basketball League. Hill has been on the roster of the Utah Jazz and, most recently, the Philadelphia 76ers. Prior to joining the NBA, Hill attended Providence College. He stands 6 feet... 10 inches and weighs 240 pounds . Hill was drafted in the second round, 55th overall, by the Utah Jazz in the 2007 NBA Draft. Hill was then traded to the Philadelphia 76ers. In 2007, Hill became the third Friar to lead the Big East Conference in scoring, following Eric Murdock and Ryan Gomes.

Ronnie Brewer is an American professional basketball player, currently playing for the Chicago Bulls. The Utah Jazz selected him with the 14th pick of the 2006 NBA Draft. Brewer played collegiately at the University of Arkansas, where his father Ron Brewer was a star in the late 1970s. Brewer is... known for having an unorthodox shooting technique, the result of a childhood water slide injury. At Arkansas, he averaged 18.4 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 2.6 steals, and 0.5 blocks. He also was 51–151 from three point range and shot 75% from the free throw line. Brewer was the 14th pick in the 2006 NBA Draft. Brewer saw very limited playing time in his 2006–07 rookie season with Utah, appearing in only 56 games. However, after a strong performance in the 2007–08 preseason, he assumed the role of Utah's starting shooting guard. By mid-November 2007, he was averaging double figures in points and was among the NBA leaders in steals. He was later selected to play in the 2008 Rookie-Sophomore Game. On February 28, 2009 Brewer recorded a career high 26 points, along with 7 rebounds and 4 steals against the Sacramento Kings.

The franchise started with the 1947 purchase of a disbanded team, the Detroit Gems of the NBL. The new team began play in Minneapolis, Minnesota, calling themselves the Lakers in honor of the state's nickname, "Land of 10,000 Lakes". The Lakers won five championships in Minneapolis, propelled by center George Mikan, who is described by the NBA's official website as the league's "first superstar". After struggling financially in the late 1950s following Mikan's retirement, they relocated to Los Angeles before the 1960–61 season.

The Phoenix Suns are a professional basketball team based in Phoenix, Arizona. They are members of the Pacific Division of the Western Conference in... the National Basketball Association and the only team in their division not to be based in California. Their home arena since 1992 has been the US Airways Center, which was formerly known as America West Arena, in downtown Phoenix. The Arena is often referred to as the "Purple Palace" due to its purple seats. The Suns began play as an expansion team in 1968. The franchise owns the NBA's fourth-best all-time winning percentage, winning 56 percent of its games, as of the end of the 2010–2011 season. In forty-three years of play, they have made the playoffs 29 times, posted nineteen seasons of 50 or more wins, made nine trips to the Western Conference Finals, and advanced to the NBA Finals in 1976 and 1993. As a result, based on their all-time win-loss percentage, the Suns are the winningest franchise to have never won an NBA Championship. The Suns were one of two franchises to join the NBA at the start of the 1968–69 season, alongside the Milwaukee Bucks.

The Houston Rockets are an American professional basketball team based in Houston, Texas. The team plays in the Southwest Division of the Western... Conference in the National Basketball Association . The team was established in 1967, and played in San Diego, California for four years, before being moved to Houston. In the Rockets' debut season, they won only 15 games. But after drafting Elvin Hayes first overall in the 1969 NBA Draft, they made their first appearance in the playoffs in 1969. After Hayes was traded, Moses Malone was acquired to replace him. Malone won two MVPs during his time in Houston, and he led the Rockets to the conference finals in his first year with the Rockets. He also took the Rockets to the NBA Finals in 1981, but they were defeated in six games by the Boston Celtics. In 1984, the Rockets drafted Hakeem Olajuwon, who led them to the 1986 Finals in his second year, where they lost again to Boston. In the next seven seasons, they lost in the first round of the playoffs five times. They did not win their first championship until 1994, when Olajuwon led them to the finals. The team repeated as champions in 1995.
