The Vanderbilt Divinity School and Graduate Department of Religion is an interdenominational divinity school at Vanderbilt University, a major... research university located in Nashville, Tennessee. It is one of only five graduate schools of religion in the United States without a denominational affiliation that service primarily mainline Protestantism . Vanderbilt Divinity School was founded in 1875 as the Biblical Department and was under the auspices of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, one predecessor of the present-day United Methodist Church. In 1914, in concert with the University's severance of its ties with the MECS, the school became interdenominational and ecumenical, and in 1915, the school's name was changed from the Biblical Department of Vanderbilt University to the Vanderbilt School of Religion; it adopted its present name in 1956.

Many engineering students choose double majors, minors, or concentrations in complementary disciplines. Blair is the youngest and smallest of Vanderbilt's ten constituent schools and colleges. While established in 1964, Blair did not initially offer undergraduate-level courses, instead focusing on pre-college music education as part of the then-independent Peabody College . Through the initiative of Chancellor Alexander Heard in 1981, Vanderbilt began offering undergraduate programs at Blair as part of a wider liberal arts curriculum. In 1986, Blair began awarding its own bachelor's degrees. The Blair School of Music confers the bachelor of music degree in music performance, in composition and theory, and in musical arts. Unique among Vanderbilt's four undergraduate schools, Blair has no graduate students. Wendell Lee Rawls, Jr. is a Pulitzer Prize winning investigative reporter and editor. His career spans 40 years in journalism and media, beginning... in 1967 at The Tennessean. Rawls is a graduate of Baylor School in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and Vanderbilt University. He is often known by the nickname "Sonny." Rawls was the first national correspondent at The Philadelphia Inquirer ; was a Washington correspondent and then Southern Bureau chief for The New York Times; and assistant managing editor for news at The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. He also won the National Headliner Award for Outstanding Public Service, the Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Journalism Award Grand Prize, the Heywood Broun Journalism Award, and several other awards. While he was an editor in Atlanta, his staff produced a Pulitzer Prize winner, and four additional Pulitzer Prize finalists in two years. In 1953 she was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship and left Mississippi to live in Italy and pursue writing full time.

Working with Rita Levi-Montalcini at Washington University in St. Louis in the 1950s, Cohen isolated nerve growth factor and then went on to discover epidermal growth factor. He continued his research on cellular growth factors after moving to Vanderbilt University in 1959. His research on cellular growth factors has proven fundamental to understanding the development of cancer and designing anti-cancer drugs. Cohen also received the Louisa Gross Horwitz Prize from Columbia University together with Rita Levi-Montalcini in 1983 and the National Medal of Science in 1986.

Max Ludwig Henning Delbrück was a German-American biophysicist and Nobel laureate. Delbrück was born in Berlin, German Empire. His father... was Hans Delbrück, a professor of history at the University of Berlin, and his mother was the granddaughter of Justus von Liebig. Delbrück studied astrophysics, shifting towards theoretical physics, at the University of Göttingen. After receiving his Ph.D. in 1930, he traveled through England, Denmark, and Switzerland. He met Wolfgang Pauli and Niels Bohr, who got him interested in biology. Delbrück went back to Berlin in 1932 as an assistant to Lise Meitner, who was collaborating with Otto Hahn on the results of irradiating uranium with neutrons. During this period he wrote a few papers, one of which turned out to be an important contribution on the scattering of gamma rays by a Coulomb field due to polarization of the vacuum produced by that field . His conclusion proved to be theoretically sound but inapplicable to the case in point, but 20 years later Hans Bethe confirmed the phenomenon and named it "Delbrück scattering".

Earl Wilbur Sutherland Jr. was an American pharmacologist and biochemist. Sutherland was born in Burlingame, Kansas. He won a Nobel Prize in... After serving as a doctor in World War II, he returned to Washington University as a researcher in the pharmacology laboratory of Nobel laureate Carl Ferdinand Cori. In 1953, he became director of the department of pharmacology at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, where he discovered the role of cyclic AMP in mediating the action of certain hormones. In 1963, desiring to limit his duties to research, Sutherland moved to Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, where he was a professor of physiology until 1973.
