Cleopatra Records is a Los Angeles-based independent record label. Founded in 1992 by Brian Perera, it specializes in gothic rock, hard rock, heavy metal and reissues of out-of-print music. It is known for its compilations, usually collections of cover songs performed by bands signed to the label.... In the mid-1990s, Cleopatra released tribute albums of goth, techno, industrial bands covering artists such as The Cure, Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Sisters of Mercy, and New Order. Other goth and industrial acts were compiled to cover songs by AC/DC, Pink Floyd, Smashing Pumpkins , Guns N' Roses, and the arguably un-coverable Dead Can Dance and Skinny Puppy Current and previous notable artists include Gary Numan, Kat Parsons, Electric Hellfire Club, Switchblade Symphony, Leæther Strip, X Marks the Pedwalk, Mephisto Walz, Kill SwitchKlick, Information Society, Heaven 17, Download, Rozz Williams, Missing Persons, Razed In Black and Blackburner.

Ichiban Records was a hip hop record label founded in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1985. Wrap Records and Nastymix Records were some of its subsidiary labels. Urgent! Records was distributed by Ichiban. Most of its discography is now out of print. Besides hip hop groups, Ichiban also released albums by... older, well-respected musicians such as Roy Ayers and Raful Neal. The catalog is now controlled by EMI, but nothing was ever reissued after the label ceased operations. The label's name "ichi-ban", is Japanese for "number one" or "first one", an expression commonly used in Japan to mean, "the best.

The venture’s successor, the again-active Sony Music Entertainment, is 100% owned by the Sony Corporation of America. Sony BMG Music... Entertainment began as the result of a 50–50 joint venture between Sony Music Entertainment and Bertelsmann Music Group completed on March 4, 2004. It is one of the Big Four music companies, and includes ownership and distribution of recording labels such as Arista Records, Columbia Records, Epic Records, J Records, Jive Records, RCA Victor Records, RCA Records, Legacy Recordings, Sonic Wave America, and others. The merger affected all Sony Music and Bertelsmann Music Group companies worldwide except for Japan, where it was felt that it would reduce competition in that country’s music industry significantly. Financial analysts covering the merger anticipated that up to 2,000 jobs would be cut as a result, saving Sony BMG approximately $350 million annually.
