The Venice United Methodist Church of Venice, California, is a member of the California-Pacific Conference within the United Methodist Church. It... serves the Venice and Marina del Rey communities within the UMC Cal-Pac Los Angeles District. The Church was founded in 1913, as the First Methodist Church of Venice. The campus is located on the southeast corner of Victoria Ave. and Lincoln Blvd., just one block north of Venice Blvd.. The church is adjacent to the Venice Center for Peace with Justice and the Arts . It is accessible by the Santa Monica #2 Big Blue Bus, and the Los Angeles MTA. Venice United Methodist church celebrates worship on Sundays at 10:30 a.m. Services are between 60 and 75 minutes long. Following the service, everyone is invited to share a bit of refreshment during our “hospitality” time in the parlor, before they carry on with their day. The worship contains the familiar and some unfamiliar: elements of music, prayer, Scripture reading, & prophetic witness. On the first Sunday of each month the congregation celebrates communion. To this communion table, everyone is invited into the full life of the church.

The Binoculars Building, originally the Chiat/Day Building, is a commercial office building located in the Venice neighborhood of Los Angeles,... California. Built between 1985-1991 for advertising agency Chiat/Day as its West Coast corporate headquarters, it was designed by Los Angeles architect Frank Gehry, his last project in Los Angeles until the Walt Disney Concert Hall began construction in 1999. The building is notable for the three different styles used in the main facade on Main Street, particularly the massive sculpture of binoculars that function as both a car and pedestrian entrance. The binoculars were designed by Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen. The entrance to the parking garage is between the lenses of the binoculars. The 75,000-square-foot building was delayed for a few years after hazardous materials were found on the building site, requiring removal. TBWA\Chiat\Day is no longer a tenant in the building, having moved to another area of Los Angeles known as Mar Vista. The last tenant of this building was Ketchum Inc., a public relations group. Venice Branch is a former branch library of the Los Angeles Public Library located in the Venice section of Los Angeles, California. The old Venice... Branch library was replaced in 1995 by a new branch now known as the Venice-Abott Kinney Memorial Branch. The Spanish Colonial Revival style building is now used as the Vera Davis McClendon Youth and Family Center. The Venice Branch was designated as a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument by the Los Angeles Cultural Heritage Commission in June 1984. In 1987, the Venice Branch and several other branch libraries in Los Angeles were added to the National Register of Historic Places as part of a thematic group submission. The application noted that the branch libraries had been constructed in a variety of period revival styles to house the initial branch library system of the City of Los Angeles. With respect to the Venice Branch, the application described the building as a building in the Spanish Colonial Revival style made of masonry construction. The front entry has oak double doors with diamond shaped panes. Small wrought-iron lamps flank the entrance.

Matthew Richard "Matt" Stone is an American actor, voice actor, animator, screenwriter, producer, musician, best known for being the co-creator of... South Park along with his creative partner and best friend, Trey Parker. Stone and Parker launched their largely collaborative careers in 1992, making a holiday short titled Jesus vs. Frosty. Their first success came from Alferd Packer: The Musical, subsequently distributed as Cannibal! The Musical. From there he made another short title Jesus vs. Santa, leading him and college friend Parker to create South Park, which has been airing for over fifteen years. He has four Emmy Awards for his role in South Park, winning for both "Outstanding Programming More Than One Hour" and "Outstanding Programming Less Than One Hour". Stone was born in Houston, Texas to Gerald Whitney Stone, Jr. , an economics professor and textbook author, and Sheila Lois Belasco . Stone's mother is Jewish and his father was of Irish descent.

David Carradine was an American actor and martial artist, best known for his role as a warrior monk, Kwai Chang Caine, in the 1970s television... series Kung Fu. He was a member of a productive acting family dynasty that began with his father, John Carradine. His acting career, which included major and minor roles on stage, television and cinema, spanned over four decades. A prolific "B" movie actor, he appeared in more than 100 feature films and was nominated four times for a Golden Globe Award. The last nomination was for his title role in Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill. Films that featured Carradine continued to be released after his death. These posthumous credits were from a variety of genres including horror, action, western, martial arts, drama, science fiction and documentary. Roy Lee Walford, M. D. was a pioneer in the field of caloric restriction. He died at age 79 of respiratory failure as a complication of amyotrophic... lateral sclerosis . He was a leading advocate of calorie restriction as a method of life extension and health improvement. Dr. Walford is credited with significantly furthering aging research by his discovery that laboratory mice, when fed a diet that restricted their caloric intake by 50% yet maintained nutritional requirements, almost doubled their expected life span. He received his medical degree from the University of Chicago in 1948. He completed his internship at Gorgas Hospital, Panama, and served his residency at the V.A. Medical Center in Los Angeles. He then served two years in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Dr. Walford joined the faculty at the University of California at Los Angeles in 1954. He became a Professor of Pathology at the UCLA School of Medicine in 1966. He became Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Emeritus, for UCLA, when he left to join the crew of Biosphere 2 in 1991.

Mike Muir is the lead vocalist of the Venice skate punk bands Suicidal Tendencies, Los Cycos and the funk rock band Infectious Grooves. He has also... released several solo albums under his nickname Cyco Miko. Muir's trademark is wearing a blue bandana, jerseys with the number 13, and hats with block style letters that read "Suicidal". Recent sightings of him have shown he has a mohawk in a braid slightly past his shoulders. Born in Venice, California and raised in Santa Monica, Mike Muir is the younger brother of Jim Muir of the famous DOGTOWN skateboarding team. Jim exposed Mike to metal music as well as skateboarding. Muir attended Santa Monica College after being kicked out of school in the 10th grade. In 2003 Muir had his first of two back surgeries for a ruptured, herniated disc. The other, in 2005, is what caused him to have to cancel Brazilian festival dates and Suicidal shows.

Gary Ennis Collins is an American film and television performer. Collins was born in Venice, California, to a waitress/factory worker mother. After... attending Santa Monica City College, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Europe, where he was a radio and television performer for the Armed Forces Network. He co-starred, with Jack Warden and Mark Slade, in the 1965 series The Wackiest Ship in the Army. He starred in the 1972 television series The Sixth Sense as parapsychologist Dr. Michael Rhodes and in the 1974 series Born Free as wildlife conservationist George Adamson. Collins has guest-starred on dozens of television shows since the 1960s, including Perry Mason, The Virginian, Hawaii Five-O, The Six Million Dollar Man, The Love Boat, Charlie's Angels, Friends, and JAG. He had roles in the 1969 Andy Griffith film Angel in My Pocket, and in the 1970 film Airport. He also played the heroic co-pilot in the 1977 film The Night They Took Miss Beautiful. Collins hosted the television talk show Hour Magazine from 1980 to 1988, and co-hosted the ABC television series The Home Show from 1989 to 1994.

Aras Baskauskas was the winner of Survivor: Panama. He is of Lithuanian descent, holding Lithuanian and American citizenship. The maternal grandson... of Days of our Lives actor Macdonald Carey, Baskauskas appeared on the show in 1988 as one of the children listening to Dr. Tom Horton read the Christmas story. Baskauskas played collegiate NCAA Division I basketball at UC Irvine from 2000 to 2004, where he was an honored as a Big West Conference scholar athlete for three seasons. He received his B.A. in philosophy in 2002 and his MBA in 2004. After college he had chance to sign contract with professional basketball club Alita in Lithuania but he decided to go to South Africa to learn more about yoga. Baskauskas currently resides in Venice, CA. He is the CEO of TundraGear.com, a winter hat company. He also spends much of his time and energy teaching yoga in Santa Monica. Additionally, he is part of The Cheshire Project, a non-profit that benefits people with disabilities. Before Survivor, Aras was a recently graduated student who was unemployed and living in his parents home for free.

Christopher "Kipp" Lennon is an American musician, and a founding member of the folk rock band Venice. His role in the band includes performing as a... lead vocalist and guitarist. The son of William and Isabelle Lennon, Lennon's given name is Christopher. The explanation he gives for his nickname is: '"When I was brought home from the hospital as a brand new baby, March 1960, everyone was calling me 'Chrissy', like people do with newborns. You add an "e" or "y" or whatever to their name as an instant nickname. Okay, so my brother Joe was 3 years old and he couldn't say "Chrissy", and kept saying "Kippy". My brother Dan, who was ten, thought that was hilarious, and from that day on, literally my first day at home, I was dubbed Kippy, never to be called Christopher again except by doctors, teachers, cops, and my mom if she was mad at me." When Kippy Lennon was nine years old, he and his family endured the shooting death of their father, William. Chet Young, a stalker who believed himself to be married to Kipp's sister Peggy felt that the father stood in the way and had to be eliminated.

John Travis Clayton Jr. is an American jazz and classical double bassist. John Travis Clayton Jr. began seriously undertaking the study of double... bass at age 16, studying with bass legend Ray Brown. By age 19, he had become a bassist on Henry Mancini's television series The Mancini Generation and later graduated in 1975 from Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music with a degree in bass performance. He went on to tour with the Monty Alexander Trio and the Count Basie Orchestra before taking the position of principal bass in the Amsterdam Philharmonic Orchestra in Amsterdam, Netherlands. However, after five years he returned to the U.S. for a break in the classical genre to work more towards jazz and jazz composition. He soon founded the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra with his saxophonist brother Jeff Clayton and drummer Jeff Hamilton. He and his brother also founded The Clayton Brothers which has featured noted instrumentalists such as Bill Cunliffe and Terell Stafford. From 1999 to 2001 he served as Artistic Director of the Jazz for the Los Angeles Philharmonic program at the Hollywood Bowl and has also conducted the All-Alaska Jazz Band.
