Waldis Joaquín de la Cruz is a Dominican professional baseball pitcher for the Washington Nationals of Major League Baseball. Joaquín began his professional career in 2005 with the AZL Giants. He went 1–1 with a 3.64 ERA in 29 ⁄3 innings. He also struck out 37 batters. He did not play in 2006, but did play in 2007, for the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes, with whom he went 3–0 with a 2.84 ERA in 38 innings. In 2008, he played for the San Jose Giants and Augusta Greenjackets, going a combined 1–3 with a 4.42 ERA in 71 ⁄3 innings. He made his Major League debut... on August 8, 2009, giving up one run on two hits in pitching the ninth inning in an 8–1 win over the Houston Astros. Joaquin made the Giants' roster in 2010, but after appearing in only four games, he was sent down to the Fresno Grizzlies when Aaron Rowand came off the disabled list. After the 2010 season, the San Francisco Giants removed Joaquin from their 40-Man Roster and placed him on release waivers. On November 22, 2010, Joaquin was claimed off of waivers by the Chicago White Sox. Joaquin refused the waiver claim and became a free agent.
