Westmont College, founded in 1937, is an interdenominational Christian liberal arts college in Santa Barbara, California. Ruth Kerr, owner of the Kerr Mason Jar Company, established the school as the Bible Missionary Institute , later renamed the Western Bible College . During these early years, Ruth and the other founders decided that a liberal arts curriculum was the best direction for the school.
