Hoover Hotel is a hotel built in 1930 in the Mediterranean Revival and Spanish Colonial Revival architectural styles. It was listed in the National... Register of Historic Places in 2002. When the Hoover Hotel opened in 1930, the Hoover's 100 guest rooms and elegant ballrooms were the most prestigious place for out-of-town visitors to stay in the Whittier area, and for locals to conduct receptions and other events. The area around the Hoover declined after World War II, and the Hoover became a single-room occupancy hotel that attracted indigents. Its ballroom became a bar and pool hall. In 2001, the property was redeveloped as Seasons at the Hoover, an affordable housing project with 50 units for low-income senior citizens. The total cost of the redevelopment project was $7.7 million. The project has been recognized by the Whittier Historic Resources Commission, the Whittier Conservancy, and by the Building Industry Association, which selected it as the best seniors housing of 2001. The National Association of Home Builders awarded the project the Gold Medal Best of Seniors Housing in February, 2002 and also presented it the Jurors’ Award for Innovation.

National Bank of Whittier Building is a historic building in uptown Whittier, California. Built in 1923 by John and David Parkinson in the Beaux Arts... Neoclassical architecture style, the building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. The current building is the best remaining example of the Beaux Arts style in the City. The building is of national significance as it was the site of Richard M. Nixon's first law office. Whittier was Nixon's boyhood home from the age of nine. In 1938 he served as the Deputy City Attorney to the City of Whittier. A replica of President Nixon's office has been re-created and is available to tour at the Whittier Historical Museum.

Joseph Henry "Joe" Ranft was an American screenwriter, animator, storyboard artist and voice actor who worked for Pixar and Disney. His brother,... Jerome Ranft, is a sculptor who also worked on several Pixar movies. Ranft was born in Pasadena, and raised in Whittier. As a child, Ranft developed a love for magic, storytelling, film and comedy. At 15, he became a member of the Magic Castle Junior Group. After graduating from Monte Vista High School, Whittier, in 1978, Mr. Ranft began studying in the character animation program at the California Institute of the Arts alongside John Lasseter and Brad Bird. After two years, Ranft's student film Good Humor caught the attention of Disney animation executives, who offered him a job. In 1980, Joe Ranft joined Disney as a writer and storyboard artist. During his first five years with Disney, Joe worked on a number of television projects that were never produced. Later in his Disney career, he was promoted into the Feature Animation department, where he was mentored by Eric Larson.

Beginning a career as a child actor at the age of three, she is perhaps best known... for her role as Jennifer Keaton on the hit NBC series Family Ties, as well as for her roles in numerous television films throughout the 1980s and early 1990s including The Cherokee Trail, Crash Course, and Spunk: The Tonya Harding Story among others.
