The George H. Atkinson Graduate School of Management is the Masters in Business Administration program at Willamette University in Salem, Oregon,... United States. It is one of only two MBA programs in the world accredited for both Business Administration and Public Administration . Atkinson was established by Willamette in 1974 and has an enrollment of approximately 312 students. Atkinson Graduate School was founded at Willamette University in 1974 and moved into the new Seeley G. Mudd Building in 1975. The first year had 52 students and five professors, and the program is older than the management program at Yale University. Stephen Archer served as the school's first dean. The school was first named as the Willamette University School of Administration before being renamed as the George H. Atkinson Graduate School of Management. Atkinson was a businessman in the construction industry and a trustee of Willamette before he died in 1978. He served as president of the board of trustees and made the largest single donation in school history up to that time in 1969 when his foundation gave $3.4 million to the university.

Willamette University College of Medicine is a former school of medicine that was part of Willamette University. Founded in 1867 as the first medical... school in Oregon, the school relocated between Portland and the main university campus in Salem several times. Eventually the school was merged with the University of Oregon’s medical school in Portland in 1913. That school later became Oregon Health & Science University. In 1867, the College of Medicine was officially organized at Willamette. The school opened with 24 students led by Dr. Horace Carpenter. For two years prior the school had been teaching medicine. University president Joseph H. Wythe was one of the people credited with starting the school, but left due to internal faculty strife. Wythe taught several classes as well, including hygiene and microscopy at the medical school. Wythe had attended Philadelphia College of Medicine and graduated in 1850 before serving in the Civil War. In 1874, the school had 14 students and 11 professors. Women were attending the school of medicine by 1877. At this time the department was located in Waller Hall, then named University Hall.

Mark Odom Hatfield was an American politician and educator from the state of Oregon. A Republican, he served for 30 years as a United States... Senator from Oregon, and also as chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee. A native Oregonian, he served in the United States Navy in the Pacific Theater during World War II after graduating from Willamette University. After the war he earned a graduate degree from Stanford University before returning to Oregon and Willamette as a professor. While still teaching, Hatfield served in both houses of the Oregon Legislative Assembly. He won election to the Oregon Secretary of State's office at the age of 34 and two years later was elected as the 29th Governor of Oregon. He was the youngest person to ever serve in either of those offices, and served two terms as governor before election to the United States Senate. In the Senate he served for 30 years, and now holds the record for longest tenure of any Senator from Oregon. At the time of his retirement, he was 7th most senior Senator as well as second most senior Republican.

Richard Carl Laymon was an American author of suspense and horror fiction, particularly within the splatterpunk subgenre. Richard Laymon died in... 2001, of a massive heart attack and is survived by his wife, Ann, and daughter, Kelly. He was born and raised outside of Chicago, Illinois, then lived in Tiburon, California as a teen. He graduated from Redwood High School, then pursued his BA in English Literature from Willamette University in Oregon and an MA in English Literature from Loyola University in Los Angeles. His works include more than sixty short stories and more than thirty novels, a few of which were published under the pseudonym Richard Kelly. However, despite praise from prominent writers from within the genre, including Stephen King and Dean Koontz, Laymon was little known in his homeland, though he enjoyed greater success in Europe, particularly in the United Kingdom until his affiliation with Leisure Books in 1999. The author largely viewed much of this as a product of the poorly re-edited and reconstructed first release of The Woods Are Dark, which had over 50 pages removed.
