Willie Larry Randolph is a former Major League Baseball second baseman and manager, most recently the third base coach for the Baltimore Orioles. During an 18-year baseball career, he played from 1975-1992 for six different teams, most notably for the New York Yankees. At the end of his playing career, he ranked fifth in major league history in games at second base , ninth in putouts , seventh in assists , eighth in total chances , and third in double plays . Randolph, who grew up in Brooklyn, New York, and attended and graduated from Samuel J. Tilden High School where he was a star athlete, was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 7th round of the 1972 draft. He made his major league debut in 1975, and was at age 21 the sixth-youngest player in the National League. In December 1975 he was traded by the Pirates with Ken Brett and Dock Ellis to the Yankees for Doc Medich.
