Winchester

The George Washington Hotel, is located in historic downtown Winchester, Virginia. Built in 1924 by The American Hotel Corporation, as part of there... "Colonial Chain" of hotels. Like many hotels of the era, the property was built in close proximity of a B&O train station and was constructed to provide lodging to railroad passengers. Originally the five story hotel was built in an "L-shape," with a rear once-story kitchen wing. It contained 102 rooms and 45 baths. The lowest level contained a barber-shop, cafeteria, candy shop and men's furnishing shop. In 1929 and additional wing was added to the hotel, which provided 50 more guestrooms. In 1950 the property was remodeled to include a Howard Johnson's restaurant. The property remained a vital part of downtown Winchester, Virginia and has in the past been home to the headquarters of the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival. Over the years, a number of notable people have stayed at The George Washington Hotel. Guests have include Lucille Ball and Jack Dempsey among many others. With the construction of interstate highways and widespread availability of motor cars, railroad travel begin to decline.

The Stonewall Jackson's Headquarters Museum was an antebellum home owned by Lieutenant Colonel Lewis Tilghman Moore, commander of the 31st Virginia... Militia. Later, while commanding the 4th Virginia Infantry, Colonel Moore offered his home at 415 North Braddock Street, Winchester, Virginia, USA, to serve as the headquarters for Confederate Major General Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson. Jackson lived in the home from November 1861 to March 1862, and was joined by his wife, Mary Anna, in December 1861. Jackson arrived shortly after taking command of the new Valley District of the Department of Northern Virginia. From this location, Jackson planned his Shenandoah Valley defenses and campaigns, starting with the Romney Expedition. The home is a gothic revival style cottage built in 1854 for William Fuller, was named "Alta Vista", and had a beautiful view over open hillsides facing east across Winchester. While living here, the Jacksons became very fond of the people and culture of Winchester, and referred to it as their "winter home", hoping to settle here after the American Civil War.

Brian Benben is an American actor of stage and television, best known for his as Martin Tupper in the HBO comedy television series Dream On , and... also known as Dr. Sheldon Wallace on ABC medical drama Private Practice . Benben is married to Madeleine Stowe. Benben was born in Winchester, Virginia, the son of a produce buyer. He later lived and attended high school in Marlboro, New York, followed by two years at Ulster County Community College in Stone Ridge, New York, after which he moved to New York City, where he worked various jobs while auditioning and acting. In 1982, he married Madeleine Stowe, whom he met filming The Gangster Chronicles. Together they have one 15 year old daughter whose name is May. They have a ranch home in Johnson City, Texas west of Austin In 1983, Benben appeared in the Broadway play Slab Boys with Kevin Bacon, Sean Penn, Val Kilmer and Jackie Earle Haley. The play received tepid reviews and only ran on Broadway for 48 performances.

Prior to her death at age 30 in a private plane crash, she was at the height of her career.
