Bar/None Records is an independent record label based in Hoboken, New Jersey. Tom Prendergast started Bar/None in early 1986. Having previously worked in pirate radio and booked and promoted bands in his native Ireland, Prendergast moved to Hoboken in 1982 and started Pier Platters record store,... which subsequently developed a national reputation as one of the finest alternative stores in the country. With the store as a laboratory to try out records and to track the new and obscure, Prendergast figured a label was the next logical step. The first release on Bar/None was by Rage To Live, whose leader, Glenn Morrow, soon became a partner in the label. Morrow had already built a network of contacts in the alternative music community having toured nationally with his previous band, The Individuals, and had also worked in the A&R department of Warner Bros. and as the managing editor of New York Rocker magazine. The next act Bar/None signed gave them the success they needed to actively establish a roster of talent and worth.

City Slang is an independent record label based in Berlin, Germany. It was founded in 1990 by former tour agent Christof Ellinghaus, exclusively to release The Flaming Lips’ In A Priest Driven Ambulance . With bands The Lemonheads, Das Damen, and Yo La Tengo also looking for a label to... release their 1990 albums, City Slang became, almost by chance, a home for US bands looking to bring their music to the European market, principally the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Scandinavia and Benelux. Over the past 22 years, City Slang has grown into an extensive and varied catalogue with releases ranging from veteran acts to up-and-coming favourites. It is now home to several European acts, but Its focus on US- and Canada-based acts remains, maintaining its established relationship with several key North American independent labels. On 1st October 2011, the label expanded into the French market with the inception of City Slang France.

Alias Records is a small American indie-rock record label based in California. Alias has released albums by American Music Club, Archers of Loaf, Yo La Tengo, The Loud Family, Too Much Joy and Knapsack among others. American Indi Label Alias Records formed in 1988 in San Francisco, California and... affiliated with Recording Studio SOMA Sync. The following year Alias Records opened a second office under the guidance of owner Delight Hanover-Jenkins in Burbank, California and was affiliated with world renowned recording studio Royaltone Studio. She oversaw the development of both companies. The roster included many notable artist such as - Archers of Loaf - one of the most hard working and critically acclaimed indie rock artist of the 90's with a distinctive style and unmistakeable sound. Having several releases in the Alias catalog a deal was penned with Merge Records in 2011 to re-issue four of the LP's with various singles and out takes. Another notable Band - Yo La Tengo - had their first Alias release come out in 1992 "May I Sing" followed by "Upside Down" a extra long EP that actually contained a LP's worth of material.
