Steve Chen is a computer engineer and pioneer. Chen is the founder and CEO of Galactic Computing, a developer of supercomputing blade systems, based in Shenzhen, China. Chen holds a M.S. from Villanova University and a PhD from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is best known as... the principal designer of the Cray X-MP and Cray Y-MP multiprocessor supercomputers. Chen left Cray Research in 1987. With IBM's financial support, Chen founded Supercomputer Systems Incorporated in January 1988. SSI was devoted to development of the SS-1 supercomputer, which was nearly completed before the money ran out. The Eau Claire, Wisconsin-based company went bankrupt in 1993, leaving more than 300 employees jobless. An attempt to salvage the work was made by forming a new company, SuperComputer International , later that year. SCI was renamed Chen Systems in 1995. It was acquired by Sequent Computer Systems the following year.

Jawed Karim is a co-founder of the popular video sharing website YouTube. Many of the core components of PayPal, including its real-time anti-fraud system, were also designed and implemented by Karim. Jawed Karim grew up in Germany, and moved to the United States with his family in 1992. He... graduated from Central High School and attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He left campus prior to graduating to become an early employee at PayPal, but continued his coursework, earning his bachelor's degree in computer science in 2004. While working at PayPal, he met Chad Hurley and Steve Chen. The three later founded the YouTube video sharing website in 2005. YouTube's first video was uploaded by Jawed on April 23, 2005. After co-founding the company and developing the YouTube concept and website with Chad Hurley and Steve Chen, Karim enrolled as a graduate student in computer science at Stanford University while acting as an advisor to YouTube. When YouTube was acquired by Google, Karim received 137,443 shares of stock, worth about $64 million based on Google's closing stock price at the time.
