Rage Against the Machine is an American metal band from Los Angeles, California. Formed in 1991, the group consists of vocalist Zack de la Rocha,... bassist and backing vocalist Tim Commerford, guitarist Tom Morello and drummer Brad Wilk. Rage Against the Machine is known for its "fiercely polemical music, which brew[s] sloganeering leftist rants against corporate America, cultural imperialism, and government oppression into a Molotov cocktail of punk, hip hop, and thrash." They draw inspiration from early heavy metal instrumentation, as well as rap acts such as Afrika Bambaataa, Public Enemy, the Beastie Boys and Dutch crossover band Urban Dance Squad. As of 2010, they have sold over 16 million records worldwide. In 1992, the band released its self-titled debut album, which became a commercial success, leading to a slot in the 1993 Lollapalooza festival. The band did not release a follow-up record until 1996, with Evil Empire. The band's third album, The Battle of Los Angeles, followed in 1999. During their initial nine-year run, they became one of the most popular and influential bands in music history, according to music journalist Colin Devenish.

Unbound Allstars were a one-off collaboration of various hip-hop artists who recorded the track "Mumia 911" supporting the release of death row... inmate, Mumia Abu-Jamal. The artists involved included Public Enemy's Chuck D., Rage Against the Machine front man Zack de la Rocha, Dead Prez and Pharoahe Monch. The LP, Mumia 911, was released in 1999 by Ground Control and included all 10 versions of the song. You can find this song on The Unbound Project Vol.

One Day as a Lion is a music project that was started in 2008 by Zack de la Rocha, the vocalist of Rage Against the Machine and Jon Theodore, former... drummer of The Mars Volta. The duo blends elements of rock, rap, and punk. One Day as a Lion released their eponymous debut EP in July 2008. Zack de la Rocha had known Jon Theodore for several years before the band was formed and was very impressed with his skills as a drummer, comparing him to John Bonham and Elvin Jones. The duo first started playing together at a mutual friends rehearsal room with Theodore on drums and de la Rocha playing an old Rhodes Mark 1 keyboard through a delay pedal and an old metal amplifier. The band's name was taken from an infamous black and white graffiti photograph taken by Chicano photographer George Rodriguez in 1970 reading "It's better to live one day as a lion, than a thousand years as a lamb." This comes from a minatory slogan popular during the 1930s in Fascist Italy, "Better one day as a lion than a hundred days as a sheep." The saying is an allusion to Psalms 84:10, "Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere.

Revelation Records is an independent record label focusing originally and primarily on hardcore punk. The label is known for its role in the evolution of hardcore and metallic post-hardcore with important releases by bands such as Youth of Today, Warzone, Sick of It All, Quicksand, Side By Side,... Chain of Strength, Shelter, Judge, and No For An Answer. Revelation, along with the bands it put out in the late 1980s, is usually credited with creating and cementing the "youth crew" sound as well as New York hardcore, which bridged the gap from the earlier bands of almost a decade before and helped carry the music through the early 1990s. To date, the label's best selling releases have been Gorilla Biscuits' Start Today, Inside Out's No Spiritual Surrender and the In-Flight Program compilation. Formerly of New Haven, Connecticut, it is now based in Huntington Beach, California. It was founded in 1987 by owner Jordan Cooper, along with Ray Cappo of Youth of Today, with the sole intent of producing the Warzone Lower East Side Crew 7".

ANTI- is an American record label founded in 1999 as a sister label of Epitaph Records. While Epitaph's focus has shifted over the last decade from mostly punk rock, nowadays ANTI- has a more diverse roster, ranging from country , hip hop , reggae , Soul , folk , rap-rock , indie rock and Tom... Waits. Headed by Andy Kaulkin, ANTI- first gained attention by releasing Tom Waits' Grammy award winning Mule Variations in 1999. Along with Waits, several veteran recording artists such as rhythm and blues singers Solomon Burke and Bettye LaVette, and Marianne Faithfull have signed onto ANTI- after leaving other major labels.
